West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui has shed more light on Mohammed Kudus’ dismissal from the Hammers loss to Tottenham Hotspurs.

Mohammed Kudus was sent off in West Ham’s 4-1 loss to Spurs despite Kudus scoring in the 18th minute for his second goal of the season.

Kudus was sent off in the second half after an altercation had him strike Micky Van De Ven and Pape Sarr in the face that initially attracted a yellow card.

However, after a VAR review, Kudus’ actions were ruled as a violent conduct that called for the yellow card to be rescinded and a straight red card to be shown to the Ghana international.

After sharing his initial thoughts on the sending off incident to the BBC where he called for his team to improve and be calm in bad moments in games, Lopetegui expressed his disappointment to West Ham’s media over Kudus’ dismissal. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“I think that Mo [Mohammed Kudus] had a good match in the first half above all. It was a pity that he didn’t stay on the pitch until the end because, despite that one moment happening, we have to avoid these kinds of moments…the players have to control this situation because the red card is not a good thing for him, for us, or for the Club.”
