Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council (EXCO) Member Samuel Anim Addo has been charged by the GFA for slamming referee Maxwell Hanson over his alleged questionable officiating in the Ghana Premier League and has until Monday, January 13, 2025 to respond to the charge.

Anim Addo claimed that Hanson has become the go-to referee for carrying out ‘dirty’ jobs, undermining the league’s competitiveness and integrity.

In a strongly worded statement on his X (formerly Twitter) page, Anim Addo highlighted his frustrations, saying,

“I sounded the alarm bells months ago, but my concerns were vehemently dismissed. Leadership within Ghana Football attempted to silence me at every turn.”

The former EXCO Member’s comments come in the wake of recent complaints from Accra Lions about what they described as Hanson’s “regrettable officiating” during a Ghana Premier League encounter. Anim Addo believes these complaints are further evidence of a pattern he has repeatedly warned about. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“This is not an isolated issue. It’s part of a phenomenon I called out months ago. Yet, instead of addressing these concerns, we continue to suppress the truth,” he lamented.

“I have been consistent in my calls for referees like Maxwell Hanson to be flushed out. But perhaps clubs need to experience their handiwork one by one to truly understand the urgency of this matter,” he said.

The Young Apostles FC owner also revealed that he has faced multiple threats from the current GFA administration, alleging plans to use “foul means” to relegate his club.

“They’ve threatened me several times, but I want to caution them—this is not the worst they can do to me. My investment and commitment to Ghana football will remain unwavering,” he declared.
