The much-anticipated election of new executives to lead the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) for the next four years takes center stage today, Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium. Stakeholders from across the football fraternity are converging for this important event.

The spotlight is on the race for the Chairmanship, a two-horse battle between outgoing Vice Chairman, John Ansah, and seasoned sports lawyer, Isaac Wilberforce Koomson.

Ansah, reportedly enjoying the backing of Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, has been a key figure in the outgoing administration. On the other hand, Koomson, a former GHALCA executive council member, is campaigning for reforms aimed at revitalizing the association.

This contest marks the end of the Kudjoe Fianoo-led administration and headlines the elections for new leadership to steer Ghana’s premier club welfare body.

Other positions on the ballot include the vice-chairmanship and Premier League club representative spots, while some candidates for other roles are running unopposed.

The vice-chairmanship race is historic, as Phyllis Marku and Nana Amankwaa Kwakye become the first two women to vie for the role.

In the Premier League representative category, Asante Kotoko’s Joseph Nkoo, GoldStars’ Fred Tindan, and Vision FC’s Abdul Rahman Yakubu are in the running.

Several positions have been secured unopposed:

  • Patrick Martey Boye (Treasurer) is set to retain his position for a second term.
  • Eric Opoku (Division One League representative) will serve unopposed.
  • Gabriel Godwin Kwao (Regional clubs representative) is also unopposed.

For the Women’s Premier League representative, ASP Naomi F. Abdulai, CEO of Prisons Ladies, will take the position unopposed.

As the elections unfold, the outcome will shape the future of GHALCA and its role in supporting and advancing Ghanaian football.
