General Manager for Sustainability at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Kwame Baah Nuako, has expressed confidence in the nomination of Kofi Iddie Adams as Minister for Sports and Recreation, describing it as a positive step toward uplifting the image of sports in Ghana.
The Presidency, in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, confirmed Kofi Adams, Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency, as the nominee for the ministerial position.

The announcement came as a surprise to many within the sporting fraternity, given Adams’ limited known ties to the industry, apart from his widely acknowledged passion for boxing.
His interest in the sport is perhaps not unexpected, considering his years as a close aide to the late President Jerry John Rawlings.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Football Made in Ghana with Channel One TV, Dr. Baah Nuako urged the public to remain open-minded about the appointment.
“I’m the last person to judge anybody before the person start working and even when a coach is coming into a team ,just like when a coach is appointed and supporters of the club begin to say they don’t think he would succeed so let’s stop judging people before they are given a job to do .”

He also advised that Ghanaians and journalists in the sports media space should should not be quick to criticize the sports and recreation minister designate for not having any sports Background but should give him a chance
“The only way you would determine whether somebody can score a goal is to put him on the field ,so the only way to determine whether Kofi Adams will succeed or not as a sports minister is to make him the sports minister.”
Kofi Adams is set to face Vetting Committee as he prepares to embark on his new journey as Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation.
As the country looks ahead, one of the significant expectations placed on the new minister is to spearhead efforts to secure Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
