President of GHALCA, John Ansah

The newly elected Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), John Kofi Ansah, has attributed his rise in football administration to his dedication to learning from seasoned professionals in the industry.

Ansah, who secured a landslide victory in the GHALCA elections, garnered 96 votes out of 134 to defeat his closest competitor, Isaac Wilberforce Koomson, who managed 35 votes.

The voting body comprised two representatives each from the 18 Premier League clubs, a representative from the 48 Division One League clubs, the 30 Regional Football Association reps, and the 20 Women’s Premier League clubs.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Ansah emphasized the importance of staying humble and drawing lessons from those with more experience in the game.

“There’s one thing with football ,when you are growing and maybe you happen to have the love for it ,try and learn from the senior ones ahead of you.

“If you jump the gun, they will just press their hands on your head and you will go and come no more. They will not tell you by way of a physical action , but their attitude towards you will not help open doors for you.”

” I never behaved that way ,everybody is my master in football ,and this opportunity given to me today is not going to stop me from doing that. My relationship with people that I have work with through out the years ,I have to improve upon it. It will help the growth of this association.”

Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo, the former Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), held office from 2016 to 2024, serving two successful terms. During his tenure, he took pride in enhancing the local football landscape and leaving a lasting impact on the development of the game in Ghana.

GHALCA Delegates

Succeeding him is John Kofi Ansah, who brings a wealth of experience to the role. Having served three terms as an executive member of GHALCA, Ansah’s first term as chairman is set to run until 2028.

Making history alongside Ansah is Ms. Phylis Marku Moncar, who will serve as GHALCA’s first female vice-chairperson.
