Country Director of Right To Play-Ghana, Josephine Mukakalisa, has called for more teachers to be trained to develop their skills in sports so they in turn pass on the right teaching to children.

She said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports in the aftermath of Kofi Adams’ nomination as Minister Designate for Sports and Recreation. Kofi Adams has since been confirmed as Sports Minister.

While discussing varied issues connected to sports development via education, the Right To Play Director (Ghana), called for the Sports Minister to find ways to promote sports together with stakeholders in Ghana. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

She added that to develop the skills base of school teachers, graduates from institutions like the University of Education-Winneba’s (UEW) Sports Faculty need to be attached to schools at the basic levels to train teachers.

“Sometimes teachers don’t have enough skills either to engage learners in sports activities those core sports we know, football, volleyball, basketball…those graduates (from institutions like UEW) can come to schools, train the teachers and help manage or organize regular sports activities so that competitions that are regularly organized have that value of ensuring that more children are participating (in sports).”
