Lecturer at the University of Education-Winneba (UEW)’s Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports, Dr. Ernest Acheampong, has called for the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to adopt a policy and develop a strategic plan from the policy to improve sports in Ghana.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports after Kofi Adams was named as Sports Minister while expressing his disappointment over the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG)’s continued “recognition ignorance” of sports researchers. “We need to have a strategic plan that maybe for the period of four years, this is our direction; we are going to deal with 20 federations…but if the strategic plan and we have indicated that we are going to deal with these particular disciplines.”

“During Ohene Djan’s time (in the 1960’s) they were focusing on six main traditional sports, football, tennis, field hockey, boxing, athletics and then table tennis. So because they had a plan…it makes it easier for them to invest in them.”

Kofi Adams has promised to not be a Black Stars Minister but to be a true Sports Minister.
