Accra Hearts of Oak’s Communications Director, Kwame Opare Addo, has blamed security officers on duty for safety lapses that took place during their Ghana Premier League Match Week 23 encounter against Young Apostles at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The breach of safety and security protocols has resulted in disciplinary action against the club. Hearts of Oak have been charged with violating Article 8(e) of the GFA Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols, 2025, and Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Ghana Premier League Regulations, 2019.

Reports indicate that the club allegedly allowed unaccredited individuals, mostly supporters, into the Safe Zone, an area strictly designated for authorized personnel.

In an interview with Max FM, Kwame Opare Addo questioned why measures agreed at a pre-match technical meeting were not followed, which eventually led to a charge against the club.

“We all agreed where they would be stationed, especially in the safe zone area. Even before the games started, we all agreed that before the games, during the games and after the games, after the team buses and club officials have left the safe zone, then the security can also walk away.”

“But we realized that before the game, they were preventing a lot of people, everybody, without accreditation, from going in there, which was specifically what we discussed at the time at the pre-match meeting and it was spot on.”

But at the end of the game, how come the security allowed a section of some individuals to walk in there with their drums and all of that is of concern to us. I think the security left their post before what was agreed at the pre-match”
