Nations Football Club’s Emmanuel Annor has responded to the fine slapped on him by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over his display of his Christian faith while playing in a competitive game.

Annor scored the second goal in Nations FC’s 2-0 win over Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League and celebrated the goal by taking off his jersey to reveal an “I Belong To Jesus” inscription on his shirt beneath the jersey.

The celebration resulted in a 500 Ghana Cedis fine for the player by the GFA with the body stating that the act breached the Association’s rules on display of religious messages.

He was also warned by the GFA to avoid repeating the act to avoid getting hit with a more severe punishment that prompted the 22 year old forward to respond on his X (formerly Twitter) page stating,

“Why can football players celebrate LGBT+ sexuality but not their love for Jesus? It’s the kingdom work on the pitch!”

Annor has four goals in 15 league games at the time of writing for Nations FC that leads the Ghana Premier League standings.

Why can football players celebrate LGBTQ+ sexuality but not their love for Jesus?

Romans 14:8 – If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. ✟
