Ghana Premier League (GPL) leaders, Nations Football Club, have abandoned their league tie against Basake Holy Stars.
The controversial incident happened in Nations’ penultimate 2024-2025 season game against Holy Stars at Ayinase leaving the title race up in the air pending the decision of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Nations trailed Basake 1-0 in the 32nd minute via a converted penalty but abandoned the game after a heated confrontation with game officials after Holy Stars were awarded a second penalty.
Kumasi based Nations FC headed into the game with a three point lead and needed a win in one of their last two games to seal their first ever GPL title.
Nations FC’s wait to officially seal its title win would have to wait in the wake of the chaos that ensued at Ayinase.

In other league related news, fellow title contenders Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars recorded 3-2 wins over Medeama and Berekum Chelsea respectively while Accra Lions fight to avoid relegation suffered a major setback after losing 2-0 to Dreams FC.
