“We need more than balls and bibs” – Ridge City CEO calls for meaningful support for women’s football

CEO of Ridge City Women’s Football Club, Cleopatra Nsiah Nketsiah, has called on stakeholders in Ghana football to move beyond surface-level support and engage directly with clubs to understand their real needs.

Ridge City, now competing in the Women’s Division One League, was relegated from the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League three seasons ago.

Despite the setback, the club continues to push for development and visibility in the growing landscape of women’s football.

Everybody knows women’s football is on the rise all over the world,” Nsiah Nketsiah said. “So it would be good to have the attention coming from the governing bodies to focus on what we are doing here as a club; not just what the national team is doing and to support us in any way.

She stressed that while the willingness to help is appreciated, true support must be rooted in consultation and understanding.

The most important part of any support that anybody can give us is not to make the assumption that they know what we need, but to ask us and let us tell them what we need

The assumption can be made that, oh, we need balls and bib. We don’t need balls and bib. We need more than balls and bibs. We need infrastructure. We need support. We need people coming to our games.

Nsiah Nketsiah urged individuals and institutions interested in supporting women’s football to actively engage with clubs at the grassroots and league level, not just at the national level.

“It’s only through meaningful engagement that we can build a solid foundation for the women’s game in Ghana,” she concluded.
