Chelsea stunned European champions Paris Saint-Germain with a dominant 3-0 win to clinch the first edition of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in New Jersey.

Cole Palmer was the undisputed star, scoring twice and assisting a third in a sensational first-half display at the MetLife Stadium.

Palmer opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a low finish after Malo Gusto exploited space behind Nuno Mendes. Just eight minutes later, the 23-year-old doubled the lead with a near-identical strike, fooling Donnarumma with a clever dummy.

He then split PSG’s defence to set up new signing Joao Pedro, who lobbed the keeper to make it 3-0 before half-time.

PSG came out stronger in the second half, but Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez produced key saves to deny Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele

Joao Neves and Desire Doue had earlier missed chances that could have shifted momentum before Chelsea took control.

Things got worse for PSG when Neves was sent off late on for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair after a VAR review. The frustration boiled over post-match as Luis Enrique appeared to strike Joao Pedro in a confrontation that may result in disciplinary action.

With over 81,000 fans in attendance including former US President Donald Trump and FIFA boss Gianni Infantino; the Blues capped off their tournament with £90m in prize earnings.

Chelsea will return to action in August with pre-season matches against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan before facing Crystal Palace in the Premier League. PSG, meanwhile, will regroup ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash with Tottenham on August 13.
