Head coach of Mali’s National Men’s Football Team, Tom Saintfiet, has spoken candidly about what the team aspires to achieve in its crucial game against Ghana.

Mali take on Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8 at 19:00 GMT in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The teams head into the contest in contrasting form as Mali beat Comoros 3-0 while Ghana disappointed in a 1-1 draw with Chad.

Despite the draw with Chad, Ghana leads Group I with 16 points from seven games while Mali rank third with 12 points and Saintfiet was clear about his team’s intentions after landing in Accra.

“Ghana is a good team in Africa, they are number one in our group, four points ahead of us so it will be a tough match but we are here to write history and we want to win here” Saintfiet said to EOS Official on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport.

Mali win! Good performance in a comfortable 3-0 win against Comoros in Morocco (again).
