Former Bayern Munich President Uli Hoeness has delivered a stinging assessment of Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade by claiming that without funds from Saudi Arabia, the Magpies wouldn’t have been able to sign the German striker for 90 million euros from Bundesliga side VFB Stuttgart.

The former footballer and veteran football administrator said this in an interview with German media outlet Sport 1 Dopa while discussing transfers that took place in the recently closed transfer window.

While making that strong claim about Newcastle, Hoeness stated emphatically that Nicolas Jackson’s loan deal from Chelsea to Bayern Munich won’t be converted into a permanent transfer. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

In the wake of Alexander Isak’s move from Newcastle to Liverpool for a record fee, the Magpies retooled at the striker position by signing Woltemade and Yoane Wissa from Brentford but Hoeness believes that minus Saudi cash, Newcastle wouldn’t have been able to sign Woltemade.

“Woltemade isn’t worth the 90 million fee. That only happened because of the money flowing from Saudi Arabia” Hoeness said.
