Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has spoken up about getting racially abused during an English Premier League game against Liverpool.

Semenyo was racially abused by an individual at Anfield during AFC Bournemouth’s game against The Reds in the opening game of the 2025-2026 season.

The incident took place when Semenyo moved to the touchline to effect a throw-in leading with the incident leading to widespread condemnation and an arrest of the individual.

The male individual was subsequently arrested but released on conditional bail that had him banned from watching all football games at a stadium in the United Kingdom.

Speaking on the issue in a video posted by Bournemouth, the Black Stars player says the racism incident touched a nerve.

“I think I’m a strong individual so when things like that happen, I always just try to move on but with the Liverpool incident, it definitely, definitely touched a nerve. I was nearly at breaking point to be honest” Semenyo said.
