Liverpool FC followed up a much needed win over West Ham United this past weekend with a draw against Sunderland to avoid dropping further games.
The Reds drew 1-1 with Sunderland at Anfield with Liverpool’s goal coming in the 81st minute through a Nordi Mukiele own goal.
Liverpool’s under fire midfielder Florian Wirtz thought he had scored the goal but his shot off a fine run was going off target before a deflection off Mukiele steered the ball into the net.
Federico Chiesa later on in the game delivered an outstanding goal line clearance that prevented Liverpool from conceding a second goal in the game in the 94th minute.
Speaking after the game to the BBC, Liverpool head coach praised Chiesa’s effort and talked about how luck found his team in the contest compared to recent ones.

“It was a deflection and could have gone anywhere but in the period we are in, it went in. Far too many times this season we don’t concede a lot of chances but the ones that we do go in.”

“We weren’t lucky enough to get the win over the line but in recent weeks we would have lost this game so that is a positive” Slot said.

For the second game in a row, Mohamed Salah wasn’t included in Liverpool’s starting unit.
