A viral video of Senegal’s National Men’s Football Team arriving at an airport ahead of their game against Morocco in the 2025 AFCON final has drawn the ire of Senegal head Pape Thiaw who has blasted the authorities over the lack of security for the team.
Senegal take on Morocco in the 2025 AFCON final on Sunday, January 18 and ahead of the game, Senegal’s Federation announced a statement condemning treatment meted out to the team including poor location of the training facility where its sessions could be monitored.
Both countries are looking to win the AFCON title for the second time and are unbeaten in the competition in the lead up to the tournament. Senegal beat Egypt 1-0 in the semifinals.
Addressing the issue at a pre-game presser, Thiaw shared how unhappy he was about the situation and went on to state that,

“What happened yesterday was abnormal. A team like Senegal can’t find themselves in the middle of the crowd like that. The players were in danger; anything could have happened facing ill-intentioned people.”
