Egypt forward Mohamed Salah’s run at the 2025 AFCON came to a disappointing end as Egypt missed out on winning the bronze medal.

The North African nation drew goalless with Nigeria but lost in the penalty shootout to the Super Eagles to finish fourth in the competition.

Salah couldn’t add to his four goal tally in the competition and proceeded to miss his penalty kick attempt; Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali saved Salah’s strike with a strong hand to push the ball away.

Omar Marmoush, who, like Salah is based in the English Premier League, also missed his penalty in a poor outing for Egypt’s biggest stars.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru missed his spot kick attempt for Nigeria but Ademola Lookman converted his kick to give Nigeria a 4-2 win and the bronze medal.

Earlier in the game, Akor Adams’ goal for Nigeria was chopped after a VAR review found striker Paul Onuachu committing a foul in the lead up to the goal.
