Number three seed at the 2026 Australian Open, Coco Gauff, has expressed disappointment over her elimination from the competition.

Gauff lost 6-1, 6-2 to Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals in the wee hours of Tuesday, January 27 to miss out on setting up a dream matchup with defending Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka.

The American lost to Sabalenka in the semifinals in last year’s competition but was easily handled by the Ukrainian who moved back into the top 10 in the world rankings after the win.

Speaking after losing her quarterfinal game, Gauff stated that a lot of things didn’t go well for her against Svitolina.

“She-Svitolina-played really well and unfortunately, usually when people raise their level I’m able to raise mine and today I just didn’t do that so I have to figure out how not to do that again.”

“The backhand wasn’t firing, the forehand wasn’t really firing returns. There was a lot that didn’t go well today.”
