Black Maidens set for qualifier comeback against Togo after CAF ban

Ghana’s U-17 women’s team, the Black Maidens, will kick off their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign with a two-legged tie against Togo next month.

The first leg is scheduled for Sunday, April 12, 2026, in Lomé, with the return fixture set for Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The fixture marks Ghana’s return to the qualifiers following a suspension by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in July 2022. CAF handed the Black Maidens a two-edition ban from the U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers and imposed a $100,000 fine.

The sanction followed a protest lodged by Morocco over age eligibility violations. Investigations found that two players, Nancy Amoh and Rasheeda Shahadu, had falsified their birthdates.

After serving the ban, the Black Maidens now have the opportunity to rebuild and compete for a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, beginning with the crucial tie against their West African neighbours.
