The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) bounced back from semi-final heartbreak to secure a deserved third-place finish at the 2026 Honda Football Championship.

After suffering a 4-1 penalty defeat to the University of Ghana (UG) following a goalless draw, UENR responded with a commanding performance in the third-place playoff, beating the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) 2-0.

UBIDS players are praying before the game

Determined to avoid ending the tournament empty-handed, UENR started strongly and controlled proceedings from the outset, showing greater urgency and intent than their opponents.

Emmanuel Appiagye and Aziz Yussif found the back of the net to seal victory, capping a dominant display in which UENR dictated the tempo and created the better chances.

At the back, UENR were equally solid, keeping UBIDS at bay and ensuring a clean sheet with a disciplined defensive performance.

The result seals a third-place finish for UENR, underlining their consistency and strong showing throughout the competition despite falling short of the final.
