The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars following the dismissal of Otto Addo due to the team’s poor performances.

The decision was finalised after a GFA Executive Committee meeting, where three shortlisted candidates were considered. Sources indicate that the Association has since presented Queiroz to the government as the preferred choice to lead the national team forward.

Queiroz, 73, was among three high-profile coaches interviewed by the GFA on Friday, April 10, 2026, as part of a rigorous selection process aimed at restoring confidence in the Black Stars setup.

The Portuguese tactician brings a wealth of experience to the role. He previously managed top national teams including Iran, Egypt, and Colombia, and also had a stint as head coach of Real Madrid. Queiroz is widely respected for his tactical discipline and defensive organisation, having guided Iran to multiple FIFA World Cup appearances.

His appointment signals a shift towards experience and structure as Ghana looks to rebuild and prepare for upcoming international competitions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This year’s tournament will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with Ghana drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
