Ghana football has been thrown into mourning following the death of Dominic Frimpong, a player of Berekum Chelsea, who succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during a robbery attack on the team’s bus.

The incident occurred along the Goaso–Bibiani road near Ahyiresu in the Ahafo Region, when armed men reportedly blocked the road and opened fire on the team vehicle. Players and officials were forced to flee into nearby bushes to seek safety.

The Club has confirmed that Frimpong suffered critical gunshot wounds to the head and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he received emergency treatment. He was being prepared for transfer to a higher-level facility when he passed away.

The player had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, in a deal set to run until the end of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

Frimpong had been one of the emerging talents in the squad, making 13 league appearances and scoring two goals during the current campaign. His performances had marked him out as a promising figure for the club before his untimely death.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian football community, raising serious concerns about the safety of teams traveling across the country. Authorities are expected to intensify investigations into the attack.
