A growing dispute over revenue sharing in tennis could lead to a boycott of some of the sport’s biggest tournaments, with this year’s French Open potentially the first to be affected.
Several leading players, including Women’s World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff, have publicly expressed frustration over the current distribution of tournament revenues between organisers and players.
Players competing at this year’s French Open are set to share a prize pool of $72 million, an increase of $6.2 million from last year’s edition. However, players are reportedly pushing for a larger share of tournament revenue, demanding 22 per cent instead of the current 15 per cent share.
“I think at some point we will boycott it, yeah. I feel like that’s going to be the only way to fight for our rights.

“Let’s see how far we can get, if it’s going to take players for boycott … Some of the things, I feel like it’s really unfair to the players. I think at some point it’s going to get to this.”

Coco Gauff is the defending French Open champion in the women’s division, while Carlos Alcaraz is the defending champion in the men’s division but will miss the tournament due to injury.
