Ghana’s U-20 Women’s team, the Black Princesses, have qualified for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be hosted in Poland after edging Uganda 3-2 on aggregate in the final round of the African qualifiers.

Ghana secured qualification after a 1-1 draw in the second leg played on Saturday, May 9, in Uganda, having won the first leg 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Princesses needed a response after Uganda took the lead, but Linda Owusu Ansah once again delivered spectacularly. The midfielder scored from a free-kick in the 78th minute, producing her trademark finish to level the game and seal Ghana’s passage to the World Cup.

This will be the Black Princesses’ eighth appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after previously competing in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2022, 2024, and 2026.

Ghana’s best performance at the tournament came in 2010 and 2014 when the team reached the quarterfinals. The Black Princesses have also consistently produced talents who progressed to the senior national team, the Black Queens.

The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland is expected to feature 24 teams from across the globe.
