Italian Serie A side Fiorentina have terminated the contract of Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey after the Black Stars player joined the club at the start of the 2025-2026 season.
Lamptey ditched a move to Dutch giants Ajax to see out his contract with Brighton and Hove Albion before choosing to play for Fiorentina. Prior to joining Brighton, Lamptey spent extensive time with Chelsea after graduating from their academy.
However, Lamptey made just two appearances for Fiorentina accumulating just 25 minutes of game time combined before tearing his ACL that ruled him out for the rest of the season further denting Lamptey’s well documented injury record.
According to Italian football insider, Fiorentina have terminated Lamptey’s contract “with immediate effect“. The injury is reportedly the reason behind Fiorentina’s decision to end the relationship.

Lamptey’s injury has all but ruled him out of getting selected to compete for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Lamptey represented the Black Stars at the 2022 edition where Ghana crashed out of the competition at the group stage.
