In the wake of the tragic passing of Nungua Coldstore Basketball Club player Michael Arhin in the course of competition, the 2026 Accra Basketball League (ABL) has been halted. (Scroll down to view statement)
The halt in the league is to allow authorities to conduct investigations into the passing of Arhin during a league game on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
The decision to halt play in the league was announced by the Greater Accra Basketball Association (GABBA) who organize Ghana’s premier basketball league.
The 2026 ABL season has over 40 teams competing across the Men’s Division I, Men’s Division II and Women’s Division with Spintex Knights as defending champions in the Men’s Division I.
A statement from GABBA directed that a committee of inquiry chaired by Dr. Andre Kwasi-Kumah will conduct investigations into the issue.

“The Association extends its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, Coldstore Basketball Club, teammates, friends and the entire basketball fraternity during this difficult period” a section of the statement read.
