Deputy National Service Authority (NSA) Director-General Fuseini Donkor has welcomed the Auditor-General’s report on the audit of the 2023 African Games. (Scroll down to watch video)
The continental multi-sport competition was held in Accra in 2024 at the Borteyman Sports Complex, the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, and the Bukom Boxing Arena
However, in the aftermath of the competition, concerns were raised about some financial irregularities connected to hosting the games.
Former Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif, the Local Organisation Committee (LOC) Chairman, Dr Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, and former Chief Director of the Sports Ministry, William Kartey, were named in the report and asked to refund over GHC570,000 allaged misused funds to the state.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, the Deputy National Service Authority boss, Fusini Donkor, said,
“Ghanaians saw what happened in the African Games, we saw what they did at Legon Stadium, we saw what they did at Borteyman (Sports Stadium) so for me yes I welcome this news.”
“I believe it is time for the Attorney General… the rest to all go should all go into it and begin to follow the money.”
The report recommended sanctions for the aforementioned individuals over the expenditure of 580 million Ghana Cedis.
