Football legend Asamoah Gyan has described Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo as the face of Ghana Football after excelling in the 2025-2026 season.
Gyan made this comment according to Sky Sports at a pre-World Cup event in New York as Ghana prepares to play against Wales on Tuesday, June 2 in Cardiff.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L in the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside England, Croatia and Panama with Semenyo among the 26 man squad and in line to play at the World Cup for the second time in his career.
Semenyo scored 17 league goals in the just ended season while winning the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup with Manchester City; his fine form also earned him a nomination in the English Premier League Player of the Season Award.

Speaking at the event, Gyan said, “There will be a lot of pressure on Semenyo going to the World Cup. People back home have questions about his performance when it comes to the national team.”

“There will be a bit of pressure because of where he is playing now. When you are playing for one of the best teams in the world, …there will be a lot of expectations. He is the face of Ghana football right now.”
