The Black Stars have received a major financial boost ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign after the Government of Ghana approved the release of more than GH¢76 million to support the national team.

The funding package, announced through the Ministry of Finance, is expected to cover both the team’s participation at the tournament and outstanding commitments dating back to the qualification campaign.

A total of GH¢76,466,919.20 has been earmarked for the Black Stars as Ghana seeks to give the team every possible advantage at the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

World Cup War Chest Unlocked

The largest share of the allocation  GH¢58.9 million (US$5 million)  has been released to finance the team’s World Cup operations, including logistical arrangements, accommodation, training requirements and other tournament-related expenses.

The move comes as the Black Stars continue preparations for their opening group-stage encounter against Panama on June 17.

Government officials believe the early release of funds will allow the team to focus solely on football and avoid the off-field distractions that have affected previous national team campaigns.

Qualification Rewards Finally Paid

Beyond tournament expenses, the government has also cleared long-standing qualification bonuses owed to players and officials.

An additional GH¢17.5 million (US$1.488 million) has been released to settle the remaining payments due from Ghana’s successful World Cup qualifying campaign.

The bonuses form part of an agreement reached during qualification, where only half of the agreed payments were made upfront, with the balance dependent on securing a place at the tournament.

Following qualification, the outstanding amount has now been honoured in full.

Focus Shifts to Panama

With financial obligations settled and preparations fully funded, attention now turns to the Black Stars’ quest to make an impact on the world stage.

Government has reiterated its confidence in the team and called on Ghanaians to unite behind the players as they seek to write another memorable chapter in the nation’s World Cup history.

For the Black Stars, the message is clear: the backing is in place  now the focus is on delivering results on the pitch.
