Egypt captain Mohamed Salah voiced his disappointment over the Pharaohs elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup but has promised that the upsetting situation will mark the fresh start for the North African nation.
He said this after featuring in the entire duration of Egypt’s 3-2 loss to Argentina in the round of 16 stage that had Egypt hold a 2-0 lead as at the 78th minute only to concede three quick fire goals from the defending world champions to crash out of the tournament.
The loss was marked by a handful of controversial refereeing decisions that caused several members of Egypt’s continent to protest furiously.
Prior to this tournament, Egypt had never progressed beyond the group stage at the FIFA World Cup and reflecting on the loss, Salah in a post on X said,
“I know you’re still upset, but I promise you that I’ll do everything in my power to ensure this marks a fresh start for Egyptian football on the international stage.”

“Qualifying for the World Cup won’t be enough, and just participating won’t cut it either. This team deserves your trust.”
الفريق ده يستاهل ثقتكم pic.twitter.com/Jrsp3YOjk7
