2024 Olympics Men’s 100 Metre Gold medal winner Noah Lyles has played down the severity of an injury that forced him to pull out of a race.
Lyles pulled out with an injury midway through the US National Championships Men’s 200 Metre event, forcing him to miss the rest of the race.
Heading into the event, Lyles clinched his tenth Men’s 100 Metre gold medal win in the competition by running a personal best time of 9.79, which is also the world-leading time.
Speaking after the injury-forced incompletion of the race, Lyles indicated that he wasn’t injured, but a cramp was the issue.
“I grabbed on it [my leg] and I was like there is no reason to keep pushing…so I just cut it off. It’s just cramp. Will go rest.”
“I wanted to push myself to make sure that I knew what it felt like to get up the next day and run because if this happens at the Olympics, I need to be ready for it” he said.
