Former South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has made a bold but controversial statement about the country’s National Men’s Football Team’s future should Pitso Mosimane get appointed as the new head coach.
Broos stepped down from his role as South Africa head coach after leading the Bafana Bafana to the round of 32 stage at the FIFA World Cup for the first time ever.
He was reportedly in line for a contract renewal but turned down the opportunity to continue in the role; former Al-Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has been pegged as Broos’ replacement but veteran Belgium coach Broos is wary about his replacement.
“The candidate is Pitso Mosimane, a successful South African coach but they know that if he comes in, they’ll go back five years in time.”
“My assistant coach Helman Mkhalele too, he didn’t want to stay without me” Broos said to Belgium based newspaper Nieuwsblad.
Under Broos, South Africa won bronze at the 2023 AFCON.
