Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay is set to undergo a minor heart procedure after Napoli discovered a “mild benign arrhythmia”.
The 29-year-old was substituted after 56 minutes of Napoli’s 2-1 Serie A defeat by Como on Sunday and will undergo cardiac arrhythmia ablation in the coming days.
Napoli expect McTominay to return to action after the international break in early October, meaning he is likely to miss Scotland’s first four games under new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli.
Those matches include Nations League meetings with Slovenia home and away, North Macedonia and Switzerland.
McTominay reassured supporters on social media, posting: “See you soon Napoli. I won’t take long.”
Napoli said the midfielder will receive corrective treatment for the arrhythmia, a condition involving an irregular heartbeat, with ablation used to block faulty electrical signals in the heart and restore a normal rhythm.
