Former Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif is expected to appear before Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee today, Thursday, September 17, as it probes expenditure on the 2023 African Games.
The committee is examining spending on the Games following a forensic audit by the Ghana Audit Service, which flagged financial irregularities and procurement breaches worth more than GH¢580 million.
Ussif, who was Sports Minister when Ghana hosted the Games, is expected to answer questions about the ministry’s role in the procurement and expenditure process.
His appearance follows that of Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams and former Executive Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Dr Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, who told the committee that the LOC was not responsible for procurement and that the process was handled by the Ministry of Sports.
The committee is expected to continue its probe as it seeks clarity on the expenditure and procurement decisions surrounding the Games.
