Three Ghanaian players were involved in the Carabao Cup this week, with all three seeing their clubs knocked out.

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew came off the bench in the 58th minute as Sheffield United lost 1-0 to League One side Fleetwood Town in the third round.

Ayew, who joined Sheffield United earlier this month after leaving Leicester City, played 32 minutes in his second appearance for the club. He recorded 100% pass accuracy, completed his only dribble attempt and created a big chance.

Caleb Yirenkyi started for Coventry City but could not prevent a 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa. He played 73 minutes before being replaced by Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka.

Brandon Thomas-Asante was an unused substitute for Coventry and continues to wait for another start after featuring in their opening Premier League fixture against Arsenal.

Mohammed Kudus made his first start of the season, playing 75 minutes in Tottenham’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup.

He missed one big chance, registered one shot on target and completed 1/4 dribble attempts as Spurs exited the competition.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was not included in Ipswich Town’s squad as they suffered a 4-2 defeat to Arsenal.

The 22-year-old has started all four league games this season and has one assist.

Ibrahim Osman was also absent from Brighton’s squad for their 3-2 victory over Manchester United.

The 21-year-old has made three Premier League appearances this season, all from the bench, playing 40 minutes in total.

The four players are expected to be named in Ghana’s squad for the 2027 AFCON qualifier against Côte d’Ivoire on September 24 in Bouaké.
