Nukunu FC make Division One League debut with draw against Nania FC

Nukunu FC have secured their first-ever point in the Ghana Division One League after holding Nania FC to a goalless draw at the Nania Park at the University of Ghana.

The Ketu North-based side, popularly known as the “Wonder Boys,” made a bright start to their Division One League campaign, creating several chances but failing to find the back of the net.

Nukunu FC were also solid defensively, limiting Nania FC’s clear-cut opportunities while making timely clearances and interceptions to preserve a clean sheet.

The team received massive backing from their supporters, with hundreds of vociferous fans thronging the Nania Park to cheer the players throughout the game.

Despite being aware of the challenge that came with making their Division One League debut, Nukunu FC showed composure and discipline to secure a valuable point away from home.

Speaking to Citi Sports after the game, head coach Christian Chibueze admitted that inexperience affected his side but highlighted the positives from the performance.

“This is not the result we expected. But we saw some positives. I’m not happy because I feel we could have done better. It’s good to pick a point away from home. We need to improve our attack in the next game. It’s a work in progress, and the team will surely understand each other,” he said.

Nukunu FC were formed in 2023 by Ketu North Member of Parliament Eric Edem Agbana, who was present at the game to motivate the team.

The club, based in Tadzewu in the Volta Region, are now preparing for their next Division One League fixture as they continue their maiden campaign in Ghana’s second-tier competition.
