Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew is reportedly set to miss Ghana’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia due to a knee injury.
Ayew arrived in camp on Monday but complained of knee discomfort and underwent a scan on Tuesday, September 22.
According to reports, the scan confirmed an injury that is expected to rule the Sheffield United F.C. forward out of the upcoming matches. He is expected to leave camp and begin his recovery. His reported withdrawal adds to Ghana’s growing list of injury absences ahead of the qualifiers.
Mohammed Kudus has already withdrawn to continue his recovery, while Antoine Semenyo has also reportedly been ruled out through injury.
Baba Rahman and Alidu Seidu are also unavailable to Carlos Queiroz, prompting the GFA to add players to the squad following the medical concerns and withdrawals.
Ghana begin their Group C campaign against Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24 before hosting The Gambia in Accra on September 29. Ayew’s reported absence would leave Queiroz without the player named captain in his original 24-man squad.
