Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah says luck eluded Ghana in their 2027 AFCON qualification loss to The Gambia.
Ghana lost 4-2 to Gambia in a game played at the Accra Sports Stadium despite taking a 2-0 lead through goals from Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan.
Gambia stormed back into the game by capitalizing on defensive mistakes from Ghana including a rash tackle from Mensah that led to a penalty that Gambia converted for its first goal; Mensah made a poor back pass that gifted possession to Ebrima Colley to score Gambia’s third goal.
Speaking after the shocking loss, Mensah said shared his disappointment about the result and added that,
“We have to accept that luck wasn’t on our side and we probably didn’t perform as we were supposed to perform. As a captain today, I feel like I will also take responsibility for everything that happened today” Gideon Mensah said.

Losing to Gambia was Ghana’s second in as many games in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers after losing 2-0 to Cote D’Ivoire prior.
