Calls for the resignation of Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku and the dissolution of the GFA have intensified following the Black Stars’ 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The defeat has sparked renewed frustration among supporters and sections of the football community, with demands for changes to the administration of Ghana football.
Ghana surrendered a 2-0 lead at the Accra Sports Stadium before conceding four goals to suffer their second consecutive defeat in Group C. The Black Stars remain without a point after two matches.
Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George has also reiterated his call to disband and rebuild the Black Stars. Responding to questions on X after Tuesday’s defeat, Sam George wrote:
“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for two years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts, but the patchwork is worse.”
The frustration was also evident at the Accra Sports Stadium after the final whistle, where Okraku was confronted by an angry supporter as he attempted to leave the venue.
Video circulating on social media showed the supporter pointing at the GFA president and shouting before appearing to move towards him. Members of Okraku’s entourage intervened to prevent the confrontation from escalating.
The latest backlash follows Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and a poor start to the 2027 qualifying campaign, with defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
The pressure is now extending beyond head coach Carlos Queiroz, with calls growing for changes at the GFA and a rebuilding of the Black Stars.
