Ghana legend Mohammed Polo has questioned Laryea Kingston’s readiness to coach the Black Stars, following reports linking the former Ghana international with the vacant position.
Polo’s criticism centres on Kingston’s decision to leave his role as head coach of the Black Starlets after they failed to qualify for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Starlets lost 2-1 to Burkina Faso in the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship on May 25, 2024, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Polo believes Kingston should have remained in the role despite the setback.
“Laryea Kingston doesn’t have the heart to coach the Black Stars because he doesn’t have the heart. I don’t know why he left his job,” he told Citi Sports.
Kingston has emerged as one of the names linked with the Black Stars job following Carlos Queiroz’s resignation after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation are now searching for Queiroz’s successor.
A five-member technical search committee has been tasked with identifying and recommending candidates for the position, with its report due on October 9.
The recommendations will form part of the process to appoint Ghana’s next head coach ahead of the Black Stars’ upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
