Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams recommended the suspension of Yaw Ampofo Ankrah as Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), according to the Minister’s special aide, Wonder Mandel.
Mandel said this at a media engagement at the Ministry on Friday, October 9, as scrutiny continued over the visa scandal linked to Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
President John Mahama suspended Yaw Ampofo Ankrah with immediate effect amid visa fraud allegations involving the NSA, and appointed Professor Emmanuel Osei Sarpong as acting Director-General.
Mandel said Kofi Adams recommended Ampofo Ankrah’s suspension.
“The Minister did not ignore the matter, he called the NSA Director-General- Yaw Ampofo Ankrah-questioned him very well.

He also requested for all details and information from the victims, also went ahead to engage the C.I.D to get the facts from there and put his report to the appropriate authorities at the Presidency and gave the recommendation that the NSA Director-General should be set aside for proper investigation.”

“The direct protocols must be followed and honourable Kofi Adams did just that and that led to the suspension of the Director-General and investigation is going on” Mandel said.
