Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports, Michael Kwasi Aidoo, says the dismissal of Yaw Ampofo Ankrah as Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) is not enough.
His comments follow President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to remove Ampofo Ankrah from office on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Ampofo Ankrah is under investigation over an alleged visa facilitation scheme linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reportedly involving up to $600,000.
Yaw Ampofo Ankrah’s lawyer, Jerry Avenorgbor flat out denied his client’s involvement in the alleged visa scandal. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
Speaking in an exclusive interview on CITI FM’s Eyewitness News following Ampofo’s removal, Michael Aidoo, who doubles as Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, stated that

“What the President has done does not end the issue. Dismissing, sacking or suspending, whichever term they want to term it of Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah does not ignore the root causes and the broader network of accountability.”

“As a minority we believe that there must be a full transparent enquiry to examine the issues surrounding the World Cup…even accountability after the World Cup. This enquiry is needed so that we can understand the issues very well.”
