Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has called on his team to do better than they did in their English Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues lost 2-0 to Spurs at Stamford Bridge in a disappointing game for the home side that saw Mike Penders score an own goal, and playmaker Cole Palmer was dismissed after receiving two yellow cards.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the loss, Alonso expressed his disappointment with his team’s performance.
“We are all disappointed with the result, with the performance collectively and individually we were not at our best level. It was about the first goal and it went their way and with 10 men it was difficult but we can do better.”
“Chances were the main thing, they had few and we had few. We can do better. We wanted to have this fluidity in the middle.”
“We wanted the pockets filed with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers. There were situations but overall we have to do better.”
