Spain’s Ambassador to Ghana, Ángel Lossada Torres-Quevedo, has urged greater attention to the rights of persons with disabilities, telling Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, that their mission goes beyond winning trophies.
The Ambassador made the remarks during a visit to the team on Thursday, October 29, ahead of the 2026 World Amputee Football Cup in Mexico, where he stressed that sporting success must go hand in hand with respect for the dignity and rights of persons with disabilities.
“At the end of the day, sport is important, but the rights of persons with disabilities are more important. You are already very good, and I wish you all the best,” he said.
Lossada Torres-Quevedo met the 15 players and members of the technical team, describing them as allies and pledging his continued support.

“For me, you are allies,” he told the team as they prepare for the November 13–22 tournament.
President of the Ghana Amputee Football Association, Foster Kwarteng, thanked the Ambassador for his longstanding support for disability sport and his engagement with the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana.
“What you’ve done for the National Paralympic Committee and persons with disabilities, I personally cannot thank you enough. You’ve always opened your doors to us, and I thank you for that,” Kwarteng said.
The Black Challenge will face Colombia, Angola and Iraq in Group D as they seek to build on their back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations titles and win their first world crown.
