Ghana’s 20 national football teams have been relying on a single bus purchased in 2008, but the vehicle is now broken, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has announced.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports on Tuesday, November 4, Kurt Okraku explained that the bus serves all the national teams, including the Black Stars and Black Queens, as well as the country’s 18 other national sides.
The situation has forced the GFA to rent buses to transport its teams, with the association hiring one during the most recent international window.
“Your Black Stars, your Black Queens, and the 18 other national teams that we do have, have access to one bus that was purchased by the FA in the year 2008. Twenty national teams using one bus. Now the bus is broken, so during the last international window the FA had to rent a bus,” Okraku said.
The GFA President described the situation as one of the fundamental challenges facing Ghanaian football, arguing that sustained success requires investment in basic infrastructure and logistical support.
He believes the lack of essential resources has made it difficult for Ghana to maintain consistent success across generations of national teams.
“So if we want to create a sustained football ecosystem, these are the fundamentals. These are the reasons why we’ve not had sustained and continuous victorious stories over generations. These are the hard truths,” he added.
