Black Queens looking to avoid embarrassment against Japan

Head Coach of the Black Queens, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo says she wants to avoid humiliation when the Ghana takes on former world champions Japan on Sunday.

The Queens who will not be involved in the qualification process for this year’s Women’s AFCON because of their status as hosts, will use these high profile friendly games to prepare for the competition which starts in November.

Ghana were thumped 11-0 by Germany in 2016 and were also beaten 8-0 by France in similar friendlies, and Tagoe-Quarcoo desperately wants to avoid further embarrassment this time around.

“I am not a soothsayer so I don’t know what will happen in the game. But my main objective is to play well so that even if we don’t win we reduce the huge scorelines we have endured in the past,” she said.

“I believe we are not going to lose because of what I have seen in the team and how far we have gotten to. My girls are really poised for the game.”

The Queens have had a positive start to life under Tagoe-Quarcoo winning the WAFU Zone B tournament earlier this year.
