Akakpo Patron ‘hopeful’ for more Kotoko goals this season

Assistant head coach of Asante Kotoko, Akakpo Patron, believes the team will start to score more and more often in coming matches in this season’s Ghana Premier League.

He spoke after Kotoko beat Wa All Stars 2-0 in their Week 9 fixture on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors have been going through a poor run of scoring returns from last season and their total across the 30 matches played last season and the 9 played so far this season is 31 with 29 against.

The 2-0 victory was the second time they had scored twice in a single match this season.

Patron told the media that he was confident of better times in coming matches.

“One thing is that, goal scoring requires activity and matches. Once the players start scoring one goal in matches, the tally will start to go up.

They will not automatically jump to scoring three and more. That will take time and when the confidence sets in, they will start banging in the goals.”

He went on to state the plan that got them a victory against All Stars in Wa.

“We knew that the pitch in Wa would not help with the beauty of the game. It was all about working hard to get the result. Everything played out just like we wanted and so, we got  the goals in either half.”

Kotoko face rivals Hearts of Oak in the Super 2 clash on Sunday, April 29 in Kumasi in the next round of the Ghana Premier League.
