Ghana sprint queen Hor Halutie has revealed that she did not expect to compete in the Women’s 100m at the just ended Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

The 19 year-old made history as she finished 8th in the final of the event after breezing through her heat and the semifinals.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Halutie disclosed that she only knew she would compete in the individual event a few days before competition as she originally went to the Games as part of the Women’s 4×100 team.

“I was surprised, because based on my times I wasn’t even sure I’ll make it to the Games. It was when we got to Australia that the officials told me I’d be competing in the flat race,” she said.

“I told myself that I was not going to allow the other competitors to intimidate me. I was very determined to qualify to the semis, so I gave it my best and thankfully I made it.”

Halutie went on to win her heat, setting a new personal best time of 11.45 seconds to progress to the semis, where she run another fantastic race to earn a place in the final in her Competition debut.
