Egypt and African football legend,Mohammed Aboutrika, has been placed on the terror list for a further five years by the Cairo International Criminal Court.

The Pharaohs great has been linked with the Muslim Brotherhood which is banned in Egypt and red-marked as a terrorist organisation.

Aboutrika, 39, is alleged to have funded the Muslim Brotherhood and has been on the terror list since January 2017, leaving him exiled in Qatar in fear of prosecution if he returns to Egypt.

Together with 1,529 defendants including former president Mohamed Morsi, Aboutrika was not part of the 299 people who were removed from the list last month.

Under Egyptian law, terrorists are groups or individuals who, “through any means inside or outside the country, seek to call for the disabling of laws, or to prevent state institututions or public authorities from functioning, or seek to attack the personal liberty of citizens or other freedoms and rights granted to citizens by the law and constitution, or to harm the national unity and social peace.”

Aboutrika enjoyed a colourful playing career with Al-Ahly which saw him being crowned the best Footballer of the Year based in Africa in 2006, 2008 and 2012.
